After completing 20 glorious years in journalism Ram Kamal Mukherjee coproduced his first television series Bin Kuch Kahe with director Rajshree Ojha of Aisha fame in 2016. This finite series aired on Zee Tv with leading television cast Samata Anchan, Sameer Arrora, Rashmi Somvanshi, Suzzane Bernert and Bharat Sharma. Later he made his directorial debut with 26mins short film Cakewalk starring Esha Deol Takthani, Tarun Malhotra and Anindita Bose. Produced under the banner of Assorted Motion Pictures, the film became India’s first short film to be premiered on a movie satelight channel Rishtey Cineplex. The film was acquired by Viacom 18 and is currently streaming on their OTT platform Voot.
Ram Kamal’s Cakewalk broke many records as a short film and created a benchmark in Bollywood. The first look of the film was unveiled in London by dreamgirl Hema Malini and media baron Nari Hira. Cakewalk also happens to be first short film whose music has been acquired by Zee Music, the music launch of the film happened in Dubai, amidst top 50 international chef of the world. Cakewalk also happens to be first short film to be invited at BBC London, and Ram Kamal happens to be only Indian film maker (short film) to be invited at the prestigious studio for an exclusive show. In India the film became the first one to be invited at the Mumbai headquarters of Twitter and Facebook for worldwide music launch of the film by the leading cast Esha Deol Takhtani, music director Shailendra Kumar and playback singer Rupali Jagga.
Cakewalk travelled to almost 25 film festivals in India and abroad, and won almost 18 coveted awards at various festivals. Ram Kamal bagged Best Director award at MTV IWM Buzz Digital Awards, Society Pride of The Nation Award, Best Actor and Best Music Score in Kalasamrudhhi International Film Festival, India, Best Cinematography and Best Editing in Creation International Film Festival in Los Angeles, California, Best Short Film of the year, Best Cinematography, Best Music Director and Best Story writer award in Jharkhand International Film Festival, Best Film in Druk Interntional Film Festival, Bhutan and Best Film in Diamond International Film Festival, India. Ram Kamal directed his second 45mins feature A Tribute To Rituparno Ghosh: Seasons Greetings with Bollywood starts Celina Jaitly and Lillette Dubey. This mother and daughter relationship film became india’s first feature to officially collaborate with United Nations under Free & Equal. The film has been acquired by India’s leading OTT platform Zee5 and will be premiered in 2020. The first look of Seasons Greetings was officially launched by legendary actor and Dadashaheb Phalke winner Shri Amitabh Bachchan. The film was premiered in prestigious Cardiff International Film Festival and this film travelled at various other countries like Australia, South Africa, USA, UK and various other countries.
Ram Kamal directed his third bilingual 50 mins digital film Rickshawala with Bollywood actor Avinash Dwivedi, Kasturi Chakraborty and Sangita Sinha, produced under the banner of Assorted Motion Pictures. Rickshawala is a tribute to legendary film actor Om Puri, he was the only Bollywood actor after Balraj Sahani, to play the role of a hand driven rickshaw puller in cinema. Marking the 70th birth anniversary of Om Puri the film has won Best Director and Best Actor award in 13th Ayodhya International Film Festival in Lucknow.
Ram Kamal made his fourth short film Broken Frame, 26mins, based on Long Island Iced Tea (written by Ram Kamal Mukherjee) starring Rohit Bose Roy and Ritabhari Chakraborty, produced under the banner of Assorted Motion Pictures. This film deals with the relationship between a married couples.
Ram Kamal completed his fifth short film Shubho Bijoya with television’s most popular on screen couple Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee. This 40mins Hindi feature deals with the eternal love story between a fashion photographer and super model.
Before making foray into films Ram Kamal Mukherjee successfully worked as Editor In Chief in India’s leading film magazine Stardust. Before Stardust he has worked as Assistant Editor in Mumbai Mirror, The Times of India group. He is the official biographer of Hema Malini, honoured by BBC, for the first coffee table book on Hema Malini Diva Unveiled, published by Magna Publications. Later in 2017 he released his second book on Hema Malini, official authorised biography, Beyond The Dream Girl, by Harper Collins India in 2017. Beyond The Dream Girl was launched by Deepika Padukone in Mumbai, later this book travelled many places in India and abroad. After Beyond The Dreamgirl he released his second book on fitness, Fitness Secrets of the stars by Penguin India. In 2019 he released a biography on Sanjay Dutt: One Man many Lives by Rupa Publications. He is the winner of coveted Power Brand Award as a Best Biographer and Best Film Journalist.
